The Deal With the Kid
A dare and a night of youth driven bad decisions lead to Sirus, being born to a single mother, Katherine Hale. He was a pretty average kid in a small town in Rhode island where he was raised and his mother loved him of course despite the fact that instead of spending her mid to late 20s partying she was raising her son. He had friends, people in town liked the kid, never acted out more than most boys his age at least, but things turned south for the kid the older he got.
He and a few of his friends had a 'club house' by the railroad track for their own league of adventurers, imaging what it could be like if they adventured across the earth and beyond like so many of the heroes on the news, they'd play on the tracks make up games, the like of normal kid stuff but they were normally safe. One day they weren't careful, his foot got stuck in the tracks as a train came barreling down the tracks. His friends ran to the safety of their clubhouse expecting him to follow but horrified to find he was stuck as the train rapidly approached. He did all he could do and braced for impact hoping the conductor would stop holding his hands out until something snapped.
The day his powers manifested. He felt something at his fingertips and he pushed but knew he wasn't moving, a horrifying screech of metal and the warping and twisting of train tracks and the front of the metal train that had been barreling towards him was mangled, his foot was safely free and he was alive but he wouldn't go on living normally after that moment. His friends were terrified and ran seeing the destruction the other boy seemingly created and he followed, but you know kids can be awful at keeping a secret.
News quickly spread through the small town about the boys supposed abilities and the adults kept their kids inside when he tried to come play. They'd seen things like that before, on TV people like Magneto, people to be feared, people even Sirus had been taught to fear in the backwards little town could do that. His mother held him back from going to school the first week of that next year claiming he was sick and needed to see someone. That was just before she sent him away.
A letter from some special school for kids like him arrived like something out of a movie the week before he was sent away, he didn't get to say his goodbyes to the other kids, he was unceremoniously shipped away to the school and has spent most breaks staying there full time trying to get a grasp on his powers.
